Six people from Watford, Bushey and Garston are among the 1,000 new entries in the 2014 edition of Who’s Who, which was published today.

Inclusion in Who’s Who - which contains potted biographies of 33,000 of some of the most famous, most talented and most influential people - is by invitation only, so this is an accolade for all the newcomers and they include:

Nicholas Daymond, 51-year-old headmaster of Parmiter’s School at High Elms Lane, Garston.

Philip Clarke, 52-year-old newly-appointed Head of Comedy at Channel 4,who was born in Watford on May 14, 1961, and was educated at Rickmansworth School.

Kevin Fear, 50, Watford-born headmaster of Nottingham High School.

Professor Terry Wyatt, 56, Watford-born professor of physics at the University of Manchester.

Professor David Maxwell, Bushey-born professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Cambridge, who will be 50 on Sunday (December 8)

William Hughes, 49-year-old Cardiff-based QC and self-confessed Hornets fan. When asked by Who’s Who to list his clubs, Mr Hughes named four and put the Hornets first on the list.

They are joined in Who’s Who by violinist Nicola Benedetti - at 26, the youngest of the new entries in the 2014 edition - "comedienne" Miranda Hart, former Strictly Come Dancing judge, Arlene Phillips and BBC TV Antiques Roadshow expert, Eric Knowles, who are also appearing in Who’s Who for the first time.

Everyone in Who’s Who - with the possible exception of the fugitive peer, Lord Lucan, who vanished in November 1974, but who nevertheless retains his place in Who’s Who - is invited to compile his or her own entry.

The late Hertfordshire romantic novelist, Dame Barbara Cartland, required 211 lines to list her mostly literary achievements.

The Watford entries are comparatively brief and modest. Parmiter’s Nicholas Daymond explains his life in just 10 lines, which is four lines fewer than the entry of US President Barack Obama and five lines fewer than the entry of Pope Francis.

In Who’s Who, Mr Daymond lists his recreations as: "theatre, cinema, reading, travel, watching cricket".

In her Who’s Who entry, writer Julie Burchill, 54, lists only two recreations: "sex and shopping".

There are now 25 Watford people - either living, working or born here, in Who’s Who, according to publishers Bloomsbury.

Mr Daymond, Miranda Hart and all the others will now remain in Who’s Who until they die, when they will be automatically transferred to Who’s Who’s sister publication, Who Was Who.

The 2014 edition of Who’s Who is published by Bloomsbury at £250 and the print and online edition is available from Oxford University Press at £350.
