The latest delays to the bridge repairs, which are keeping a main road in central Watford closed, have been caused by poor weather.

Water Lane remains closed this week after building work has been repeatedly delayed from the original start date of September 13.

The finish date was originally pushed back to November 22 because replacement parts were delivered late. However the work is now scheduled to finish on Friday, December 6.

Hertfordshire County Council said this was due to recent wet weather, which meant new concrete beams could not have a protective waterproof membrane applied.

A spokesperson for the contractor Osborne Ltd said: "We regret these further delays to the works in Water Lane. The recent rain has prevented us carrying out critical waterproofing works. We are working to complete the scheme and are anticipating that we will complete in December 2013."
