Thousands of pounds were raised at an animal rescue centre’s Christmas Fair at the weekend.

The National Animal Welfare Trust’s Christmas Fair took place in Tyler’s Way between 11am and 3pm on Sunday.

Hundreds of people gathered at the charity’s annual fundraiser, which brought in £5,106.

Centre manager, Jackie de Friez, said: "We are really happy and grateful for the support and the help from our brilliant volunteers and our hard working staff.

"Many thanks to the local community for supporting us and all the homeless animals this Christmas."

She added: "It’s a real team effort from everyone to make these events work and I can’t thank everyone enough."

The centre opened the yard so everyone could visit the animals and there was a Santa’s Grotto, stalls and refreshments available, with volunteers giving a helping hand in their dog outfits.

There was a chocolate fountain and homemade cakes for the humans, as well as biscuits and sweet treats for the dogs.
