Among many contributions in the collection box in The Parade, Watford, belonging to the Watford and District Group of the Hertfordshire Spastics Society was a £1 note wrapped in a screw of paper.
On the paper was written: "This is in return for a kindness done to us in our time of need by someone we do not know.
"They sent us a £1 note. We give it back in the same way to help, we hope, someone in need. We now have the pleasure of giving as they had.
"God bless them. We do not know, and no more will you, the identity of the giver."
