A new lunch club has launched in Garston place to give people in the area a place to meet and socialise.
The ‘Friday Feast’ has begun on Fridays at Church of the Nazarene, in The Brow, and has already seen over 40 residents attend its first two meetings.
Erica Tuxworth, the pastor of the church, said: "I wanted this to be something that gets people out of the house and gets them talking to other people. It’s for everyone, whether they’re connected with the church or not. And look how successful it’s been - we’ve got people of all ages here and there’s a wonderful atmosphere. It’s a dream come true for me."
The lunch club was funded by a start-up grant from Watford Community Housing Trust’s Community Development Fund, which paid for tables, cutlery, a freezer and other supplies.
Jackie Tyrrell, Community Development Officer at Watford Community Housing Trust, said: "Lunch clubs are a great way of supporting our tenants and other local residents. By working with partners we can stop people from feeling lonely and provide a warm meal at a reasonable price - that’s especially important at this time of the year."
