Taekwondo will be showcased at a special fundraising day at an Abbots Langley club this weekend.

BJ Academy is putting on the event to raise funds for Sian Moorcroft, a 10-year-old girl from Abbots Langley who has intermediate type II spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Sian has been left unable to walk or stand due to her weakened muscle structure.

Sian, who has had 20 operations in her life so far, goes to the club every week to watch her brother.

Taekwondo master, Brima Johnson, who runs the academy, said: "Everyone knows her. She is part and parcel of the club and really enjoys watching everything. I’m sure if it wasn’t for her chair she’d be in there with the rest of them."

The event will include one on one competition, demonstrations of tile smashing and a raffle. Visitors will also be encouraged to enjoy an array of cakes and other refreshments.

The event will be held in Abbots Langley Community Centre, in Gallows Hill Lane, on Saturday, December 7. It will run from 10am to 3pm.
