Tributes for the 15-year-old have been left outside The Harefield Academy.
The school’s principal, Mark Poulter, said: "I am extremely sad to confirm that one of our Year 11 pupils, Patrick Roberts, died yesterday.
"Patrick was a very bright and well-loved student and our school community has been deeply affected by this tragedy. We are closely monitoring the wellbeing of all students in the coming days and offering support where necessary.
"Our thoughts are with Patrick’s parents and family and we ask everyone to respect their privacy at this most difficult time."
Hertfordshire Constabulary is not treating the death as suspicious.
