The gym at Watford Leisure Centre Woodside, operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Watford Borough Council, is set to get in shape with a £250,000 upgrade.

A number of improvements will be made including the installation of new cardiovascular equipment. The high-tech kit boasts touch screen consoles which allow exercisers to access online information on a range of topics including health, fitness and sport. An interactive system called Preva will allow users to set personal workout targets and long-term goals, such as losing weight or toning up.

The system automatically reviews a customer’s programme if they miss a workout to ensure they remain on track to achieve their goals. The system even allows users to share their achievements on social networks like Twitter and Facebook.

Wattbikes will also be installed, allowing cycling fans a more scientific way to train, and the gym at Woodside will benefit from an extended free weight area and new core/balance zone.

Ian Cook, Everyone Active Contract Manager for Watford said: "We hope that the new equipment at Woodside - along with the new kit at recently refurbished Central - will offer an enhanced experience for customers, enabling them to take control of managing their own fitness goals. The use of the internet is increasing all the time and we are delighted to be able to offer these technological advances to encourage fitness at all levels."

Dorothy Thornhill, Watford’s Elected Mayor said: "This is fantastic news for the residents of Watford who will soon have two state-of-the art facilities to help them stay active. I am particularly looking forward to seeing how these new technologies and equipment will improve the customer experience for existing users as well as encouraging more people through the door."

Work will begin on December 15 and should be completed within a week. The gym will be closed while work is in progress.
