West Herts Golf Club’s “hole-in-one” insurance scheme, which enables members to pay a 2s 6d premium to guard their pockets against the cost of celebration drinks, has gone broke.
When the scheme was first inaugurated, the possibility of two members holing out on the same day seemed remote, But it happened on Sunday ... twice, and at the same hole [the ninth].
It was the first time a member had holed in one since January 1960, and, thinks secretary Hugh Stokes, it is the first time two members have holed out on the same day since the club was founded in the early part of the century.
