The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, tried his hand at cake decoration when he visited West Watford’s newest supermarket this morning.

The MP spoke to some of Morrisons’ youngest employees, who obtained jobs through various work experience schemes in Watford, such as NCS and Our Club.

Mr Osborne then later donned an apron and cap to help make a sponge cake at the Ascot Road store.

Watford’s MP, Richard Harrington, said: "I was very pleased to ask the Chancellor to come here because of two things. First of all, he helped us get the money for the Croxley Rail Link, which is critical for the whole area.

Watford Observer:

"Secondly, when I opened Morrisons two weeks ago I saw people here who I had seen on various work experience courses on Job Centre Plus and I was so pleased to see them here working that I thought I had to show somebody on top level that these schemes work."
