Abbots Langley was lit up last week when the annual Christmas lights ceremony and carol concert took place.

Organised by the parish council, this year the concert took place on Thursday, December 5 in High Street.

The Carol Concert was opened by Councillor Gloria Keaveny, chairman of the parish council, who turned on the Christmas lights assisted by Amy Hill, a Year 5 pupil at Abbots Langley Primary School, who won the Christmas Scene Drawing competition.

Councillor Keaveny said: "We had a wonderful evening of carol singing last night at our annual Carol concert in Abbots Langley High Street. We would like to thank Amy Hill, our "switching on the light" competition winner, Amanda Mackie and the Divine Saviour choir, for their sensational concert and Katherine Bunting for leading us all in the carols.

"It would not be the successful event without the generous donation of Adam Ginder and family for the hot food. We also have to thank Gregory and Davies Transport Ltd, Festive Impact Lighting Ltd, Baldwin and Bleakley Services Ltd, Radsouth Associates Ltd, Wall Associates Ltd, Abbots Langley Pharmacy and all the staff in the parish for the part they all played."

Once the lights were turned on the Divine Saviour Catholic Primary School Choir sung five carols chosen by their teacher, Amanda Mackie. Katherine Bunting then lead the singing of traditional Christmas Carols.

£492 was raised for the Abbots Langley war memorial fund.
