An Idiot Abroad star Karl Pilkington greets fans at Watford's Tesco Extra and signs copies of new DVD The Moaning of Life
Scoffing down chips with tomato sauce inbetween signing copies of his new DVD may not be what one would expect from one of the country’s most famous TV personalities.
However, when you realise it is Karl Pilkington, sat in a Tesco aisle in Watford, suddenly it all makes sense.
The TV star was at the Lower High Street supermarket on Tuesday, between 5pm and 6.30pm, autographing copies of his newest release, The Moaning of Life, which documents his latest adventures around the world.
Hundreds queued for a chance to meet Mr Pilkington, who also posed for pictures with fans.
Hadley Rones and Katie Rones began queuing at 3.30pm to make sure they were near the front of the line to see the star of An Idiot Abroad.
Mrs Rones, 25, of The Gateway, said: "We love how open minded and down to earth he is. What’s really cool about him is that he isn’t trying to be funny, he just naturally is.
"We’re both so pleased to have met him."
Mr Rones, 28, an office manager, added: "We even started giving him ideas of possible series he could do in the future. We thought it would be hilarious to see him in Disneyland. We think we’ve come up with an idea for another hit."
Mr Pilkington signed the couple’s DVDs with "love life" and "Merry Chrimbo".
Another fan, 29-year-old Mark Donnelly, travelled all the way from Romford to get a signed copy of The Moaning of Life for his girlfriend for Christmas.
Mr Donnelly, who is a multi-trader, said: "I first found out he was coming through Facebook and I just couldn’t believe it. I called to check with them this morning and they confirmed it.
"It was lovely to meet him and he apologised for getting a bit of chip fat on my DVD."
