After submitting proposals to rebuild and refurbish Radlett United Synagogue ten years ago building work has finally started on the first phase of "Project Renewal".

The £1.8 million scheme, which should take around 15 months to complete, will provide more facilities at the synagogue.

The first phase will involve changes to the two houses adjacent to the shul building to allow a new communal hall, kitchen, toilets, offices, youth room and an entrance lobby for the rebuilt synagogue complex to be build.

The shul has a membership of over 700 families and is used by around 250 people each week. The congregation has already raised more than £750,000 help get the project started.

The United Synagogue has provided a 50 per cent loan towards the initial cost.
