Three Rivers dog-owners warned after surge in dog fouling

Watford Observer: Three Rivers dog-owners warned after surge in dog fouling Three Rivers dog-owners warned after surge in dog fouling

Dog-owners in Three Rivers are being urged to take responsibility for their animals after a surge in complaints about fouling across the district.

Three Rivers District Council said it had received a growing number of complaints about dog mess on footpaths and playing fields recently.

Phil Brading, the council’s public services and health portfolio holder, said: ''It doesn't take long to clear up after your dog and it creates a much nicer environment for everyone living, working and playing in the area.

"A maximum fine of up to £1,000 can be enforced if anyone is caught allowing their dog to foul without clearing it up, however we would really rather people just cleared it up there and then. "

I'm a dog owner and I always clear up - there's absolutely no excuse. A few things that would help the situation:

1) Larger dog waste bins, more of them and empty more often.
2) Don't put non-dog waste items in bins (ie. cat litter, sweet wrappers, footballs etc.).
3) Dog owners to check whether bin is full before leaving bag on top (and assuming it is full!).
5) Don't open the door and let your dog out on its own.....for obvious reasons! Yes, there is one that visits our local park on his own and doesn't clear up after himself - he wouldn't give me his name/address when questioned....
