Aldenham School Pupils got a chance to try bell ringing when they held their carol service at St Albans Abbey on Tuesday night.
Mr John Wyatt, director of music, conducted the choir and orchestra in a variety of Christmas works and led the congregation in singing Christmas carols.
Mr Sam Austin, deputy director of music, said: "The Abbey was full to capacity with pupils, staff, parents, friends and relatives.
"There was an expectant atmosphere as hush descended when Maximilian Mollenhauer-Starkl, a Year 9 pupil, began to sing the first verse of 'Once in Royal David’s City' as a solo."
Before the service pupils were able to ring the bells with the help of well known campanologist Mr Austin.
