Before Gregory Peck sails forth for the Spanish Main in a burst of Technicolor at your local cinema, you should see a “short” about gentlemen who drive carelessly and ladies who jay-walk, in the opinion of county councillor Mrs S. Wales.

Appealing for more effective adult education in road safety at the county council meeting last week she suggested that a series of short films on the subject should be prepared and shown in rotation at every cinema performance for six months.

“I am not convinced we are doing sufficient to bring home to the population the extent of the problem or that we are doing it in the right way,” she said.

On her way to the Hertford meeting at which she spoke, Mrs Wales’ car was in collision with a police van on the icy road.
