On this day in south west Hertfordshire
Monday, December 22, was peak day for the handling of Christmas mail at Watford sorting office in Clarendon Road. A new high record of more than 345,000 letters and cards was handled. This easily topped the previous record of 260,451 on the Saturday before last Christmas.
