Surprise for Christmas Eve shoppers in Watford was to see food being offered for nothing.
It was, in fact, the “brainy” idea of the manager of Dewhursts’ Lower High Street shop who made a window offer of free half-heads of pig, sooner than throw them away unsold or leave them in the fridge over Christmas.
The free gifts were not even restricted to customers – and needless to say these porcine “perks” were soon gratefully accepted.
