Met Office issues ice warning for motorists in south west Hertfordshire

Watford Observer: Ice warning for motorists in south West Hertfordshire Ice warning for motorists in south West Hertfordshire

Motorists are being urged to take extra care on the roads as forecasters have issued an ice warning.

The Met Office has issued a 'yellow' warning for ice on south west Hertfordshire’s roads during the evening rush hour until 9am tomorrow.

Forecasters say heavy rain could fall this afternoon - turning to ice as temperatures plummet this evening.

The Met Office said: "A narrow band of heavy rain is expected to cross parts of England and Wales later in the afternoon and into the evening.

"This has potential to turn to snow, primarily, but not exclusively, on high ground. With skies then clearing, this leads to a risk of ice on untreated surfaces.

"The public should be aware of the potential for some localised disruption to transport.

"There is some uncertainty over the timing and intensity of this band of rain, but where any heavy bursts occur, rain may quickly turn to snow."
