A Bushey school girl died yesterday and her 46 year-old mother was left in critical condition after a car mounted the kerb at a bus stop.

The 11-year-old girl Bushey Academy pupil, named locally as Lily-Rose Murphy, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in Stanmore.

Police were called at 12:21pm yesterday to The Common following reports of a car accident involving two pedestrians.

At this stage it is believed that a Ford Fiesta mounted the pavement and collided with two people waiting at a bus stop, as well as a stationary bus.

The driver, a 69-year-old woman, was cut from her car by the London Fire Brigade and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police say there have been no arrests and inquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne, of the Road Death Investigation Unit at Northolt, said: "We are appealing for any witnesses to this tragic incident to contact us.

“We are aware that there were a number of passengers on the bus involved, and a number of other vehicles in the vicinity. If you have any information we would like to hear from you so we can work out exactly what happened.”

Enquiries into the cause of the collision continue and no arrests have been made. A post-mortem examination was due to be held today at Northwick Park Hospital.
