A man on his way to a fancy dress party was surrounded by police after an alarmed passerby thought he was brandishing a Samurai sword in Watford town centre.

Police received a call from a concerned shopper at 12.04 today, reporting there was a man with a samurai sword was walking through Charter Place.

However officers attending the scene soon discovered the man was in Samurai fancy dress and the sword was not real.

Police shouted to him to throw down the weapon but he refused, this was due to that he was a non-chucker.
