South Oxhey youngsters have been taught how to lead healthier lifestyles in a series of workshops.

Pupils from Warren Dell, Greenfields and St Meryl Schools took part in a wide range of games, puzzles and hands-on activities to teach them about topics such as healthy eating, exercise, sleep, hygiene, body awareness and where food comes from.

The sessions, run by Rickmansworth-based A-life, were funded by a community grant from Thrive Homes.

Headteacher at Warren Dell, Jenny Morley, said: "It was an amazing day that kept all children engaged and interested in finding out more. We will look at developing this further within school."

Housing association, Thrive, owns and manages more than 4,100 homes across Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Peter Adams, managing director of A-life, said: "It has been great to work with Thrive Homes to deliver our healthy workshops, fitness sessions and alcohol and drugs awareness to schools in South Oxhey.

"With one third of primary school leavers now classified as obese, our teaching has become more vital than ever, particularly for young people in areas where healthy lifestyles are not the norm.

"We were pleased to report that the feedback from the schools was excellent and teachers were encouraged that A-life’s workshops would have a lasting impact in the families we reached."
