The news that a collection of Roman coins had been found in Heronsgate and handed to Three Rivers Museum got resident romanophile Mike Wright fizzing with excitement.

As well as explaining who the emperor was at the time, he also gave us an unprompted but nonetheless interesting talk on the origins of coins.

Former reporter Ben Endley also experienced a similar level of joy when he received a call from Rose and Ron Pym, a couple who had come up with a novel way of speeding the weekly shop.

Ron said: “It looks good and it works. She runs them over and I say sorry.”

Animal lovers living in the Cassio Metro development were less pleased when they found out they would have to stump up £78 and apply for a pet licence if they wanted to keep a cat or dog.

The rules even applied to aquatic pets, prompting councillor Malcolm Meerabux to ask: “Are they seriously expecting people to take a photo of a pair of goldfish?
