Review of 2013: June

Watford became the centre of the reptilian illuminati conspiracy theory universe as the Bilderberg Group came to town for its annual get together.

Whether you believe the event was a collection of shadowy corporation leaders setting the policital agenda for us plebs, or just some top knobs getting together for a chin wag, the conference certainly attracted a lot of attention.

Labour MP Michael Meacher claimed that “democracy was under threat” from the carefully cordoned-off area for protesters.

Watford Observer:

Meanwhile the conference’s security was kept in check by anti-terrorism laws, a no-fly zone and a network of metal barriers, paid for by a “cocktail of contributors” according to mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill.

Ms Thornhill added: “The local constabulary will have to pick up a substantial part of the tab.”

Neighbours of Bovingdon Airfield were also found to be suffering from a problem perhap uniquely to Hertfordshire (and maybe Knightsbridge) – the roar of supercar engines.

Carole Filby, who lives nearby, said she has to put up with the sound of “a massive car crash all the time”.

However, the noise was not from well-heeled playboys tooling around in their Italian soft-tops but instead the sound of “driving experiences” which are held at the airfield.
