An area of high pressure over Scandinavia allowed cold air from the Baltic and western Russia to move over the UK in January.

Watford was carpeted with snow, causing many schools to close, and even holding up the local wildlife.

Fans of the town’s football team however pitched in with shovels and cleared the pitch, allowing the Golden Boys to beat Huddersfield Town 4-0.

The annual Rickmansworth Pancake Race took place in February. Thankfully the icy conditions had lifted but even so, the event was not without its thrills and spill.

Eight-year-old George Hewett starred in a Topps Tiles advert which was used daily on ITV's Daybreak for the whole year.

Bhaktivedanta Manor in Aldenham celebrated its 40th anniversary in March.

The Manor is owned and run by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, and was donated to the religion by Beatles musician George Harrison in 1973.

Also celebrating in March were the staff and pupils of Bushey Academy after it was officially opened by Alan Sugar.

Princes William and Harry and a pregnant Duchess of Cambridge visited Leavesden Studios in April and were given a guided tour of the facilities where Harry Potter was filmed.
