January is traditionally a month that sees new runners take to the streets and parks determined to up their fitness and drop a few pounds.

But few of these New Year’s novices would set their sights on jogging 100 miles in their first four weeks.

However, construction contract manager Chris Lumm has been slogging around the streets of Oxhey in the early hours to complete the ambitious target by the end of January for the second year running.

The 35-year-old has endured a torrid first week of high winds and lashing rain as he attempts to run the equivalent of a marathon a week for British Heart Foundation.

Mr Lumm said: "I started on New Year’s Day and do five miles a day at quarter past five every morning, Monday to Friday.

"It is harder this time round as the weather has been killing me. But I just try and get myself motivated."

This is the second year Mr Lumm has undertaken the 100 Mile Challenge and the fourth he has raised money for the British Heart Foundation.

Watford Observer:

He was initially moved to raise money for the charity after a friend’s brother died of a heart condition.

As well as his morning jogging Mr Lumm is also planning to do a sky dive and is organising a Valentine’s Ball at the Hilton Hotel on Saturday, February 15 for the British Heart Foundation.
