A large-scale road repairs scheme due to start around the Bushey Arches will lead to night time road closures later this month.

Resurfacing work, to be carried out by Hertfordshire County Council’s contractor Ringway, will start on roads around the busy junction including the A4008 Pinner Road, B462 Aldenham Road and A411 Chalk Hill, on Friday 24 January.

The £120,000 scheme to repair the worn-out road surface will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 5am Monday to Friday. The scheme is expected to take six nights to complete.

The work at Bushey Arches, between the A411 Chalk Hill roundabout and A410 Uxbridge Road roundabout, will be carried out first using phased road closures, beginning on Friday 24 January.

Then the A4008 Pinner Road and Oxhey Lane section, between A4125 Eastbury Road and A410 Uxbridge Road, will begin on Wednesday 29 January.

Signs indicating alternative routes will be in place during the closure.

Hertfordshire County Council said vehicle access to properties along the affected route will be maintained.

It said this will be controlled by gatemen and vehicles will be allowed to enter the site only when it is safe to do so. Pedestrian access will not be affected by the works.

However the council warned the road works are weather dependent and any changes to the schedule will be made public.

Terry Douris, the council’s cabinet member for Highways, said: "This work forms part of Hertfordshire County Council's on-going commitment to maintain and improve our roads for the benefit of all road users in Hertfordshire.

"We appreciate that this is a major route and understand this essential maintenance work is likely to cause disruption and inconvenience both to motorists and residents. Our contractors work hard to minimise any disruption, but we ask everyone for their co-operation while the work is in progress."
