Watford Borough Council has announced plans to freeze its share of Council Tax for the next financial year.

Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, is proposing to keep the council’s precept below inflation for the eleventh year.

The average B and D household will pay £249.84 a year to Watford Borough Council, which is roughly £4.80 a week.

Mayor Thornhill said: "We know that people are fighting with the cost of living and this is a small step to help people with their day to day living expenses."

The total council tax for Watford residents will be set at a functions committee meeting on February 27, 2014.

Excellent News - just hope that the County Council (who appear to be hell-bent of wasting money at present) and the Police Authority can also be set at "zero" - times are still tough.

As you live in St Albans it is irrelevant to you. Of course they are freezing council tax it's Mayoral election year. They can always sack a few people to make the budget balance . However as I spend more on Vat than council tax a year and that went up to 20% on this lots watch! a freeze is hardly going to make me better off this year.

A freeze in council tax is always welcome. Long may this trend continue, even far beyond the Mayoral election year.
