When a motor car pulled up in Hemel Hempstead recently, a boy promptly jumped down and, digging his heels into the road, placed his back against the rear of the car to prevent the vehicle running backwards. The magistrates decided this human rear brake was not efficient within the meaning of the Act, and fined the owner-driver of the car.
