House builder Kebbell Homes is creating homes for wildlife at a new development off Delta Gain in Carpenders Park.

The firm has begun converting unused offices into 31 new apartments and nearby it is taking steps to establish new habitat for slow worms, which have been discovered at the site and are a protected species.

Sales and Marketing Manager Andrea Fawell said: "Following the recent discovery of slow worms on site, we are working closely with Paul Pendlebury, a renowned reptile expert, who is helping us to establish a new habitat for this protected species within the development.

"Paul along with his colleague Dr John Feltwell, a leading ecologist and specialist in brownfield redevelopments, have guided us in achieving a balance between the overall design of the building and sustainability of the site for the local wildlife.

"We have monitored the slow worms and relocated them to a refuge within the site."

Kebbell Homes, an independent family run business, celebrated 60 years of house building last year.
