A paralympian visited a Rickmansworth school yesterday to talk to pupils about his army career and his journey to compete in the London 2012 Paralympics.

Derek Derenalagi spoke to students in an assembly at Northwood Preparatory School, in Sandy Lodge Road.

The British Paralympian discus thrower and former soldier answered questions from the pupils and spoke of his time in the army, which ultimately resulted in the loss of his legs.

The Help for Heroes ambassador was invited to speak to students after one of the school’s teachers met him at a church in Watford.
