Detectives are appealing for witnesses after two attempted handbag snatches in north Watford at the weekend.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said a woman in her 20s was walking in Fuller Gardens on Saturday, January 11th at 9.45pm when a man approached her from behind and tried to take her handbag.

During the attempt, another woman shouted out to the offender who made off in an unknown direction.

The victim sustained no injuries and the suspect is described as a white man.

Detective Constable Garry Madgwick said: "Nobody was hurt during this incident and I would like to stress that this sort of crime is rare in Watford.

"The offender walked off and approached a second woman. It is believed that he may have made an attempt to steal from the second woman. If you have any information or witnessed this offence, please contact me."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Madgwick non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number C4/14/82.
