Police investigating a series of bank card thefts in Watford targeting elderly victims have released CCTV.

Officers are currently looking into four distraction thefts at bank cash points in High Street in which the victims were all over 70.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said in the first theft, on November 26, an elderly victim was distracted at HSBC in High Street and then his car was used to withdraw £300.

Then later that day at Lloyds Bank in High Street another victim was distracted while their card was stolen and late used to buy items.

The next theft came on Thursday, December 1 when a victim was distracted at HSBC and had £460 stolen from their account.

Then on Thursday, December 12 at HSBC another person fell victim to distraction tactics, but the card was declined by the bank when an attempt was made to withdraw cash.

PC Priya Patel is investigating the thefts and said: "Our investigations into this series of incidents continue and we have obtained more CCTV images of men who may be able to provide information that is vital to the investigation. If you recognise the men, or if you recognise yourself, please contact me immediately.

"Our investigations have also led us to believe these men may be from the areas of Stanmore, Edgware or Harrow.

"We’ve increased patrols in the High Street in order to catch the people responsible. But in the meantime I would renew advice to people, particularly the elderly, to be vigilant when using ATM machines. Always shield your pin from view and be aware of anyone who is in the immediate vicinity. If you have a family member or friend who is elderly, please do pass on this advice."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Patel via the Herts police non-emergency number 101 citing crime reference C1/13/5604. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
