Some of the cash raised during the collection at the firework display in Cassiobury Park has been presented to local charities by the Watford Lions club.

Among those to benefit is Disability Watford which was nominated by elected mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill.

Lion Brian Turner said: "We have been organising the charity collection at the Cassiobury display for a number of years now and each year it seems to get bigger and better.

"This year we had 68 collectors manning the entrances to the park."

He thanked the council for organising the display and the Lions clubs of Berkhamstead, Tring and Luton, and Apollo Scouts, RAFA, Watford Mencap and St Lukes Church for sending volunteers to help with the collection.

Watford Lions are constantly on the lookout for new members. Anyone interested in joining can contact President Frances Turner on 0845 833 9589.
