Youngsters aged between 11 and 13 recently took part in the first Watford Rotary Young Photographer competition.

The subject was "people" and each competitor, including children from local schools, had to submit three photos on the theme.

The results were judged by a professional photographer and two Rotarians, Andy Wainwright, who organises youth activities for the club, and Howard Dick.

The entries were displayed at a recent club meeting, and the winner was Kit Gillman of Watford Grammar School for Boys, who was praised for the flair and creativity of his work.

Ayodele Andrews, also of Watford Grammar School for Boys, was a close second for his technically accomplished entries.

Kit received an Amazon voucher as his prize, and both winner and runner-up will be invited to spend an afternoon at a photography studio.

Kit will now be entered in the Rotary District competition and have a chance of going forward to the national finals.

Andy Wainwright said: "We are very pleased with the response we have had and the interest the competition has generated. We’ve started on a small scale but based on this year’s experience we aim to have a bigger and better competition next year."
