A mentoring project for young people in North Bushey will be able to help more youngsters after being a cash boost.

CHILD UK was given £400 from Hertsmere’s Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS). The project aims to transform the lives of young people through sport and other leisure activities, improving physical and emotional welfare to build confidence and self-esteem.

John Manitara, from CHILD UK, said: "Our aim is to tackle obesity, drug and alcohol abuse amongst the younger generation, whilst promoting social inclusion and good citizenship.

"The young people attending our mentoring sessions will also be given the opportunity to be trained as volunteers to give something back to their local community. However, all our projects involve having fun too."

There is still some WIIS money left for the current financial year. To apply, contact your local borough councillor.
