Watford Museum has been awarded a VisitEngland accreditation for the fifth consecutive year.

The award helps tourism businesses improve and promote their quality by using the internationally recognised Quality Rose Marque.

Sonia Sagoo, receptionist and administrator at the Lower High Street museum, said: "It’s great to see that our dedication to putting the visitor first has paid off and that our efforts to make the museum a great day out for all ages has been recognised."

Watford’s elected mayor, Dorothy Thornhill, said: "The town has a museum to be proud of. The VisitEngland Accreditation guarantees the very best experience for visitors."

Watford Museum is housed in the former Benskins Brewery Mansion where displays on local history, industry, archaeology and fine art can be seen.

There are also exhibits of the town’s wartime past and memorabilia from Watford Football club and the club’s former owner, Elton John.

There are more than 30,000 objects in Watford Museum’s collection, with more than 10,000 visiting it in 2013.

The museum is open from Thursday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm. Admission is free.
