The chairman of a Flower Guild in Bushey has stepped down after 19 years.

Maureen Hastings has been the captain of St James’s Church Flower Guild since 1995. She has organised the flower festivals at the church, and, on many occasions, has been invited to display arrangements at other venues in Hertfordshire.

Mrs Hastings has also been at the forefront of the wedding flowers at the church, along with doing sensitive arrangements for funerals.

Jenny Pryra, club member, said: "As we enter a new era, it goes without saying that we must be eternally grateful for her leadership and all she has achieved and we are all very glad that she has agreed to become our president and we will continue to see her at demonstrations.

"She will be a jolly hard act to follow but the committee assured her that it will endeavour to do its best to maintain her high standard to ensure St James Flower Guild remains a happy, enjoyable and successful club."

Millie Brain, a flower club member, presented Mrs Hastings with a bouquet as a token of the clubs appreciation and the membership enjoyed tea and cake to celebrate Mrs Hastings retirement this month.

The Flower Guild currently has around 50 members, and welcomes everyone. For more information, contact Jenny Pryra on 0208 950 3280.
