Youngsters are needed to represent Hertsmere at a summer sporting celebration competing against young people from across the county.

Hertsmere Borough Council is appealing for sportsmen and women to take part as members of Team Hertsmere in this year’s Herts Youth Games on Sunday July 6 at Wodson Park Sports and Leisure Centre in Ware.

Boys and girls aged seven to 14 from ten districts and boroughs in Hertfordshire will come together to compete in the annual games, which aim to inspire and engage youngsters in a variety of team sports.

Councillor Brenda Batten, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and health, said: "If you have an interest in sport, want to have fun, and make new friends, then taking part in the Herts Youth Games is a brilliant opportunity.

"You don’t have to be the world’s best player, you just have to be enthusiastic and work well in a team. There was a great spirit at last year’s event and everyone enjoys being a part of it. A lot of the young people involved went on to join local clubs afterwards, which just goes to show the power of sport and the event."

Trials and training, run by qualified coaches, will take place at various locations across the borough.
