The first ever Watford Dragon Boat Regatta, will be held on Saturday, May 17 on the Grand Union Canal in Cassiobury Park.
Originating from China more than 2,000 years ago, the history of Dragon Boat Racing is steeped in a magical yet heroic myth, dragon boat racing has become the world's fastest growing water sport and now Peace Hospice Care is bringing it to Watford.
Teams will paddle 12 metre-long Dragon Boats decorated with a traditional dragons head, tail and drum, racing against other company teams.
Each boat can hold up to 11 team members including a drummer who plays a steady beat to keep the rest of the rowers in time.
Each team will get to compete in a minimum of three races over a 200 metre course. The fastest teams will then go through to the grand final with one eventually being crowned the first ever Watford Dragon Boat Champion.
