Watford Observer: Apprenticeship event in Watford town centre today Apprenticeship event in Watford town centre today

Young people considering an apprenticeship in Watford have been invited to a special event today to find out more about what a new career might entail.

The apprenticeship event will run between 11am and 3pm at the Youthpoint Connexions Centre, in Lower High Street, and has been organised by Watford Jobcentre Plus alongside the National Apprenticeship Service as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2014.

Employers and exhibitors will explain more about different opportunities and types of apprenticeship. Visitors will be able to have a go at things such as wiring up a circuit board, decorating a cake, or changing a tyre.

There will also be direct support on how to write applications for apprenticeship vacancies, hourly presentations from the National Citizen Service, advice from West Herts College about courses and placements, and the chance to meet employers direct.

Richard Harrington MP is opening the event and is encouraging people to come down and find out more.

He said: "This is a great chance to discover what apprenticeships have to offer and hopefully we will see a number of people take up apprenticeships after today. Watford businesses gained £1.6 million last year alone from hiring apprentices so, if you are a local business and want to find out how you can set up an apprenticeship scheme, please get in touch."
