A Bushey schoolgirl was hailed as a "new poet being born" by BBC Radio producer Patrick Kavanagh at Jewish Book Week last week.

Immanuel College schoolgirl Sabrina Miller performed her own poetry and participated in a panel discussion with recitals celebrating the poetry of Siegfried Sassoon and Isaac Rosenberg.

The panel consisted of Mr Kavanagh, biographer of Sassoon and Rosenberg, Jean Moorcroft Wilson, and North London poet Daljit Nagra.

Sabrina’s mother said: "Sabrina has always been interested in poetry. We are delighted that Immanuel College has embraced and nurtured her talent and that she was given the prestigious opportunity to read her poems to the eminent audience at Jewish Book Week."

Sabrina, who is in year nine, has already won the Bobby Fisch Memorial Essay Prize at Immanuel College, writing an imaginary Shabbat dinner conversation between great Jews from history.

Immanuel head teacher Charles Dormer said: "Sabrina has the gift to imagine, create and give expression to poetry through words, dance and drama, among her many abilities. She is a great asset to our school and community, and looks likely to outgrow those boundaries one day soon."
