Nearly 100 pupils from seven schools across Hertsmere attended the council's seventh annual youth conference to find out more about local democracy and to quiz some local councillors.

The pupils, aged between 11 and 17, took part in an interactive quiz and show 'I'm a democracy, get me out of here' performed by FLIP Theatre Workshop Ltd and then had the chance to meet and quiz borough councillors about their policies and principles during a 'speed dating' style event, before voting for their favourite.

During the afternoon, pupils learned more about local democracy and outlined how they would encourage other young people to vote.

Councillor Morris Bright, leader of the council, said: "This was another highly successful conference and it is great to note that the numbers of attendees are steadily growing each year.

"It is also a great opportunity for councillors to explain a little bit more about what we do and hear the ideas and concerns that the young people raise."

Schools from Bushey included Bushey Meads, Queen's School, The Bushey Academy and Immanuel College.
