A thirteen year old former Abbots Langley Primary School pupil lost her battle with cancer last month.

Emily Mott, of Magnolia Avenue, had been battling with a rare form of bone cancer, called Ewing’s Sarcoma, for two years. She died at home on Sunday, February 23, with her mother and father by her side.

Jacqui and Robin Mott, Emily’s parents, said they are "so proud" of their daughter, who was an only child.

After finishing her time at Abbots Langley Primary School, she moved onto Parmiter’s School. She was in Year 8 at the time of her death but was diagnosed with the disease in Year 6.

Mrs Mott said: "Emily was a very active child. She loved ballet, gymnastics, piano and swimming.

"She was in the Abbots Langley brownies and then the scouts. She loved arts and crafts and making jewellery.

"She missed it all so much when she got ill, she absolutely loved her dancing. Every time she felt well though, she’d be up and active and doing something."

Emily joined the jewellery making club at Parmiter’s School and put her creativity to good use by selling her jewellery to raise money for Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Trust. She made £300 for the charity.

Throughout her two year battle, money was raised by the local community to help her fulfil her wishlist. She was able to fulfil many of her dreams before she died, and went to Center Parcs and on holiday to Florida where she swan with dolphins, attended the Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball, and met comedian Miranda Hart.

Mrs Mott said: "We are so proud of her. We’re so proud of her loving, caring and nurturing nature. We’re going to miss her every single day for the rest of our lives."

Emily’s funeral took place at West Herts Crematorium on Wednesday (March 12), where attendees were encouraged to wear purple, as it was her favourite colour.

The wake took place at the Abbots Langley school, where her mother still works.

Mrs Mott said: "The funeral was enormous. So many people came, there were so many well wishers there. It was a very emotional day, and it was a lovely spring day, which seemed very fitting. The reception was at Abbots Langley school which was just lovely."
