A large sinkhole, which opened up under a central Watford main road, has now been filled in.
Workmen have started relaying the surface on St John’s Road, near the junction with Clarendon Road, and it should reopen by tomorrow.
The road was closed on Monday after large cracks were noticed appearing in the surface leading to fears there was a sinkhole underneath.
An investigation found water under the surface, which specialists believe may have come from a mains leak in November and could be the cause of the problem.
The hole was then filled with granular stone and work to repair the road started yesterday.
