A local hospice is encouraging residents of Abbots and Kings Langley to join their Midnight Walk this summer.

The Hospice of St Francis event is set to take place on Saturday, June 28 and registrations are now open.

The hospice encourages locals to take opportunity to remember someone special, and do something amazing in their memory.

Sponsorship is vital for helping to ensure that the vital work of the Hospice, which cares for people living with life-shortening illnesses, can continue. The charity relies on public donations for 80 per cent of the £4.6million needed to fund its free services every year.

The event starts at 9.30pm at Hemel Hempstead school and is an 11 mile walk, with the option of a five mile shorter route.

Registration costs just £20 per person, or £15 for under 18s, which includes an exclusive pink T-shirt, refreshments, medal and breakfast upon return.

Harriet Karia, the Hospice’s head of community fundraising, said: "The Midnight Walk is such a night of joy and celebration. The atmosphere is amazing with music and entertainment before you start yet there are also some very poignant moments as people pause to remember loved ones. This year we’d love to see you again if you’ve walked for us before whether it was last year or six years ago.

"By taking part in the Midnight Walk you will not only directly help a patient now, you will also help The Hospice of St Francis to create long lasting memories for the families they leave behind - memories of special, pain free, comfortable and dignified times with their loved ones.

"So, go on, walk with us in a sea of pink, light up the streets with your bunny ears and we promise to give you a night to remember."
