Anglers have saved 10,000 fish in a massive rescue operation. Members of Watford Piscators spent four days at Croxley Moor transferring fish from one section of the Grand Union Canal to another while it was being drained and new lock gates fitted.
The fish, roach, pike, carp and bream, were handled efficiently by the Piscators and very few died.
Mr Sid King, a member of the Piscators water management committee, said the operation was a success.
“We used the electric shock treatment of sending a minor current through the water which, without hurting the fish, stuns them and brings them to the surface where we catch them,” he said.
