A team from a school in Bushey triumphed in the Rotary Technology Tournament at Bushey Academy last week.

Bushey Meads School gained the highest marks in the advanced class of this annual design and build competition.

Nineteen teams of four, all from local schools competed in the daylong event in the atrium of Bushey Academy.

The task was to design and build a device remotely to pick up a "radioactive meteorite" out of a box and place it in a target area.

The event was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Rickmansworth and Watford with assistance from Elstree and Borehamwood.

The winning teams were each presented with a shield by the President of the Watford Rotary Club, Sue Clark.

Mrs Clark said: "It was great to see the students, boys and girls, working together in teams on this project and thoroughly enjoying themselves."

The chairmen of Three Rivers and Hertsmere District Councils were also there to congratulate the winners.
