A woman from Watford said it would "mean everything" to be crowned winner of a beauty pageant.

Jasmine Orr, of Water Lane, will be battling for the Miss Hertfordshire 2014 crown at the beauty pageant finale on Sunday, April 13.

The 21-year-old has until then to raise as much money for the pageant’s nominated charity, Beauty With a Purpose.

The former Loreto Girls Catholic School pupil said: "I initially entered the competition as I knew people who previously entered and have won however I have since realised there is a whole lot more to winning the title than I thought and the whole competition will really test me as an individual but I am excited to say the least."

There are three rounds in the competition, the red dress round, the eco dress round and an evening gown round.

The recruitment consultant continued: "Charity events and community events have always been close to my heart from the age of 16 when I worked for FREdome Visionary Trust.

"I participated via FREdome in organising Diversity Celebration Event for Watford Colosseum which draws together the whole community from in and around Watford, 110 organisations took park and the group successfully received lottery funding to launch the event which was great news.

"I actually miss doing thing like this since I have entered the world of independence and full time work so to start getting more involved with the community and different projects again would be great.

"So far I have raised £125 with a target I am determined to reach of £1,500."

On Friday, March 28 Miss Orr and another contestant Kat Wojcik have organised a Charity ‘Dress to Impress’ night at Chocolate Bar in Watford.

Miss Orr continued: "Although we are effectively competing against each other it’s important to secure as many people to the event as possible hence we are working together as the most important thing is raising as much money as possible.

"Many of the other girls have participated in the competition before whereas this is my first time and I am raring to go.

"I want to prove that I am not just in this competition purely for the glamour. There is a wider spectrum which involves our families, communities, counties and countries, something I wish to be part of. My track record of organising events for charities and my local area is consistent with my future desires so hopefully I have the potential to win Miss Herts and pursue this.

"To win Miss Hertfordshire would be a massive conquer. It would mean everything because I know moving forwards I would have the ability to influence so many charities and communities moving forwards and I would ensure I am involved with as many activities and projects as possible."

This is the competition’s ten-year anniversary.

A total of 24 girls are set to take part in this year’s Miss Hertfordshire 2014, with the winner going through to compete in Miss England, the queen of which will then go on to Miss World.
