A Great Building Bake-Off organised by employees at Watford-based Vinci Construction UK raised £705 for Sport Relief.

The human resources team, located at the company’s head office in Imperial Way, supplied sweet-toothed colleagues with more than 500 handmade cakes in exchange for charitable donations.

A huge variety of calorific treats were on offer, including cupcakes, brownies and sponges, plus several "showstopper" cakes which were offered as grand finale raffle prizes.

The team split into five groups and, in keeping with the spirit of Sport Relief, set out to offload cakes faster than their colleagues.

Nikita Swatton, HR manager and organiser of the event, said: "It’s amazing to have raised so much money just by making cakes, there are almost 200 people in the building and pretty much everyone got involved. Last year we made around £400 so it goes without saying that I’m thrilled we have outdone our own record.

"What surprised me was how competitive we all are! Everyone was so determined to sell out first and raise the most cash. We’re just so grateful for the generosity of our employees and really looking forward to donating the money to Sport Relief."

Canteen supervisor Alan Moody presided over the judging  before finally presenting an overall award to the winning team, intriguingly named "The Fruit Cakes."
